Money raised from the event goes straight to the community groups who help make the event happen. Last year we donated nearly $10000 to community groups such as Horowhenua Hockey, Waitarere Scouts, Waitarere Fishing Club, Tutira (Levin) Sea Cadets, Roller Derby, Levin Joggers and Walkers, Levin Cycling, Coley Street School, and the list goes on...
So by entering to run you are helping to keep these amazing community groups running too!
One of the groups that helps out each year is the T.S Tutira Sea Cadets from Levin. Here is a bit about them...
How long have you been helping with the event: Our group has been helping on the day for the past 6 years
What do you help with: We are here to help make the participants life easy on the day, and we help put the transponders on and off this saves you bending over after running your event. We also help keep participants hydrated by and give out water at the finishing line.
After the event is all finished we help clear away the finishing chutes and area.
How many volunteers from your group help: We have about 10 from our group hep each year mostly children and some adults.
What do you do with the money you receive from Great Forest Events:
It is used to pay for cadet activities a to help them learn and develop new skills such sailing, swimming, first aid instruction.
What you think about the event: We love being apart of the day. It is an awesome, which attracts hundreds of people to the Horowhenua region
