This is my first year entering anything like this I am so enthusiastic and I have my heart set on doing the 10km run. In saying that it has been an emotional week with losing a very dear Aunt, she was special to so many people and she will be missed. Getting my mojo back after this emotional rollercoaster was not easy but you have to be positive and getting out and being active helps make you feel better!
This week I have made my plan of attack to ensure I am not staggering over the finish line. My plan includes hitting the beach, taking part in low impact exercise and of course eating healthy.
A huge advantage for me is living at the beach, I love the beach and I love walking so no excuses to get down and hit the sand every chance I get. It's a fantastic workout for the legs walking and running on the sand.
With this being my first running event I want to make sure I don't injure myself so I am including other low impact exercises to increase my fitness levels. I am keen to give biking a go so I'm looking at getting a cheap one (in-case I don't like it) online. Once I have my set of wheels I am going to try biking through Waitarere Forest as part of my weekly routine. I also love swimming so I will keep this up to help increase my fitness.
My aim is to build up my training slowly each week , walking, swimming, biking a little bit further every time. Right now I am walking 5-7kms 2 times per week sometimes I'll stretch to 10km, swimming 1km 3 times per week and this week I'm going to bike through the forest hopefully 10km and see how that feels.
I'm so excited about getting myself fit and healthy, it's important for everyone to feel good and feel confident about trying anything. This weeks training:
2x 7km Walk/Run (my goal is to stop walking and be able to run the whole time)
3x 1km swim (1km is 40 lengths)
Tip of the week:
No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone on the couch!
