INTRODUCING rochelle putt
- Where are you coming from?
- Is this your first 1/2 marathon?
This will be my 4th half marathon since completing my 1st one in Rotorua in May last year.
- What made you want to sign up for the Great Forest Events?
I had decided to run a marathon this year and my coach, Heather Ireland, suggested I do this one or Rotorua Marathon. I ended up choosing Rotorua as it gives me a few extra weeks for training but having never done a forest run I was still keen to do this one so I'm doing the half marathon as part of my training. We have a group of us all coming together to do either the 10k, half or full marathon
- What are you doing for training?
I have a training schedule consisting of one mixed run (grass/sand/stairs etc), one hills run, one weekend long run and one strength training day per week. The distances vary for all the runs in the week but gradually build up to hardest week where I will do a total of 64km, then tapering off a week or so before the Rotorua marathon. The great forests half marathon will be one of my last long runs.
- Any motivational tips for other participants?
Join a group or encourage others to join you! It turns running into a social event and also holds you more accountable when you are getting a bit slack. Also TELL people about your running, if you've told everyone you are doing half marathon, when you get to that point where you feel like you can't go on and want to give up just think about those people asking how your half marathon went in the weekend and having to tell them you didn't make it, that should keep you going! It's certainly what kept me going in my 3/4 marathon in Wanganui in December haha.
