I'm trying hard to keep my head focused on the task ahead. Saturday April 12 and it's all on. I had a bit of a set back with a funny bug earlier in the week and I have been working more than normal so I haven't been able to fit in as much training as possible. But no excuses! I have still been out and about!
I had a few days of just feeling yuk, lethargic, simply under the weather. I forced myself out on Sunday heading down to the beach and with a little running and walking I started to feel a bit better but still not 100% so with about 1.5km to go, my sneakers came off and I walked with my feet in the water the rest of the way, still at a good pace mind you.
It's been another one of those weeks at work with extra shifts, odd hours here and there, so limited time to dig my heels into any intense exercise and to be honest it completely throws my schedule out of whack. It is not really the best time to be feeling unwell and extra tired I must admit. But I am still focused and determined and have fitted in exercise when I have time!!
This week registrations have been coming in thick and fast, we have had so many phone calls and enquiries about the event. It's fantastic that so many people are doing the GFE from around the region. While we have lots of locals taking part we also have people coming from all over New Zealand and even a lady flying in from TEXAS!!! You can find out about some of the people taking part at www.greatforest.org.nz
I am easing off the training a bit so my legs are fresh and ready to go on April 12. I've got my mum, my husband and quite a few family and friends joining me, actually doing the event on the day with me, so it is a big event to look forward to in so many ways. With everyone there on the day the pressure is on me to do well and feel good coming over the finish line.
I know I will do my best on the day giving it a 100%. But regardless of what my time is or what my place is, I am happy I have come so far on this journey as I can do so much more than I could a few short weeks back.
Remember there are no entries on the day so you must enter by April 9. Pop in and see me at Levin Aquatic Centre or give us a call on 06 368 0070.

The moment you are ready to quit is usually the moment right before the miracle happens. Don't give up!
